Doppler for iPhone doesn’t support storing files in iCloud Drive.
Unfortunately due to the way iCloud Drive works, this isn’t possible right now. iCloud drive was designed for documents and isn’t a good fit for storing/accessing music.
There are two main issues with how iCloud Drive works:
- Entire files need to be downloaded before they can be played
- iOS periodically removes downloaded files to save space and this happens automatically
Each of these is an issue individually but together they are particularly bad:
If you press “play” you need to wait for the entire song to download before it starts playing. Depending on your internet connection and the size of the file, this could take a while.
Then after the file is downloaded iOS can remove that download at any time. iOS will remove downloads more often when you don’t have much space on your phone
This means a lot of waiting for files to download before they play, and then having to re-download them in their entirety.
This isn’t a great experience and so we’re looking into other ways to allow people to store their music off of their device and still offer a great listening experience.
